Acura RL

What's your opinion of it? Is an FWD-based V6 Honda overpriced at $50,000, or do its strong points make it well worth the money? How does it stack up against comparably-priced V6 and V8 competitors?

Its a definete improvement over the old one. Compared with the 530i, it has more power and "stuff", and with the 540i, its cheaper. However, the 5 is proably more of a drivers car (aka more fun to drive). The RL is more of a....cruiser. So, when compared with the 5, it comes down to whether you want more luxury for money (RL), or more sportyness (5).

The 545i is basically a faster 530i, and active steering prevents both from being truly fun to drive.

Isn't active steering optional on all the 5-Series models?

Not sure, but it's bad on any.

I think that it's a very nice car, and really, a decent value, but it would benefit, at least image wise, from a V8.

I doubt Honda would do that. So, they should probably make a hybrid engine. That'll be...316HP and 360 TQ or so. (16HP and 100TQ + is what the Accord hybrids' motor gives.)

Oh, I know. The chances of a V8 anytime in the near future are very slim. I bet they'll do a hybrid version, which will be nice, but I still think they should put an 8 in it. (Then they can make a hybrid 8 )

The RL has a V6?! Shows how much I paid attention to it, I'm not really a fan of it but I do believe it's a good car, and it did make Car and Driver's 10Best list.  I would buy a 5-series over one though, but that's just me.

The 5-Series is quite a lousy car now. The iDrive complexity, the "active steering" and poor reliability, all for a high price.

Ifcar's right Kevin... the 5 is overrated by a large degree. And the 6 in the RL does make 300hp, which is very good, but an 8 would make it sound more competitive. The M5 is still an amazing machine though, but only for the styling/engine.

I guess I'll have to wait another 5-10 years before I can actually have an opinion based on something.

He had it right, in a few years he can have an opinion based on things. Which he could already do just by learning some basic facts, but that's okay.

I think they look better, but the GS (of course, it's a V8 so more torque) won't have more than the current 300hp, will it?
