Mustang Convertible

http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?intAsvPageCurrent=4&section_id=31&article_id=9091

Although Ford’s ancestral home is in the Motor City—which is hosting the North American International Auto Show just a few days after the L.A. show—motors in Detroit are currently slogging through shin-deep slush while temperatures fluctuate from the high 50s to near-zero underneath skies so gray that Northwest Airlines is reportedly considering changing its corporate colors from red and gray to day-glo green for safety. In other words, Detroit’s not exactly the best place for drop-tops this time of year. So Ford deemed L.A. the proper venue to unveil the 2005 Mustang Covertible. Based on the coupe, which stormed our January 2005 issue by securing a spot on our 10Best list and squeaking by a 400-hp Pontiac GTO in a comparison test, the blow-drier edition was designed alongside the hardtop for optimal rigidity and less cost. Ford claims to have banished other convertible woes with this design as well, claiming that the rake of the windshield header, combined with the shape of the rear seatbacks, eliminates the need for a wind blocker of any sort. Top up, the wind shouldn’t be a problem either, with Ford execs citing the Mustang’s class-leading noise levels. V-6 models start at $24,295, with the GT demanding $29,995.

Looks better than the coupe, except in the profile with the roof down.
