C/D 3 Car Challenges 1-4

These threads sprouted up at C/D with lively responses, so I figured they can be used here as well. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE RULES FOR EACH CHALLENGE! IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, ASK BEFORE YOU POST! Challenge # 1 (MrH): http://caranddriver.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=60209 I give you all, the 3 car challenge. Here are the rules. Each car must be under $100,000. You cannot get a $200,000 car, and two $50,000 cars then. Each car must be $100,000 or less. These three cars will be driven solely by you, and you do not need to consider buying a car for a significant other or anyone else. These are the only three cars you are allowed to own, so keep in mind if you have a long commute to work, or you live in the snow belt, etc. Cars can be new or used. Cars can also include ones that are coming out this spring/summer as an '06 model. Now lets hear your selections. Challenge # 2 (Raza): http://caranddriver.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=60278&forumID=1&catID=1&search=1&searchstring= In the first 3 car challenge, courtesy of MrH, we had to choose 3 cars that were all 100,000 dollars or below. In this one, the rules change a bit--the three cars cannot total more than 100,000 dollars, + 5% ($5000)...a bit of wiggle room for squeezing dream cars in. Again, new and used cars are allowed, but for used cars still in production, please use the new car price at either the current year, or the year of the model--so you would take a 330i at new car or new car of that year's price, but a 328i you can value at the used car market price. Or, a W211 E class at new price, or a W210 at used valuation. If you want to modify the cars, add a budget in for that. Say you were buying a BMW 325i, but wanted to add an Active Autowerke super quiet supercharger to it, save an extra five thousand or so in your budget for it. "325i sedan, 35K including options, plus a 5K supercharger" or even "26K WRX, plus 5K for miscellaneous mods" You don't have to be specific, or anything, we're just having fun. Okay guys, have at it, and most of all, have fun! Challenge # 3 (by BimmerM3): http://caranddriver.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=60621 Let's start to put this into perspective. Three cars each for 100k we all know is a dream. Three cars for under 100k is still totally out of reach for the majority of us here. So how about a real life situation? You must buy three cars. You have 60k. Sounds easy, right? Well here's the spin. In real life, people have wifes (or husbands for the few chicks here). In real life, people have children. So you get three cars: one for you, one for the spouse, and one for the kid (just reached driving age). And yes, I realize that not all of us are married and/or have children. Hell, I'm only 17. Just pretend. Challenge # 4 (by IFCAR): http://caranddriver.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=60629&pageNo=1&num=20 Round 4 has four categories, with different price ranges. However, the rules are the same for all: With the alotted money, you need to buy a "weekend car" (your definition applies, as long as it's a car), a daily driver, and at least one "practical car" (wagon, SUV, van). You can combine those things, but you still have to come up with three cars. Following those rules, what three cars would you get with: a). $25,000 b). $50,000 c). $75,000 d). $100,000 Yes, I know this is long. Don't let it scare you off. And don't bother posting reasons. Have fun!

For #4 you need a daily driver, weekend car, and practical car (wagon, SUV, van) to be among your three.

Okay, I put that, but does the practical have to be wagon, suv or van?  If it does, I'll change it when I finish.

Yes, in challenge 4 one of the cars has to be a wagon, SUV, or van.

Challenge #1:
Daily Driver-
Lexus LS430- best luxury car under 100K, and acceleration is good too.

Track car- C6 Corvette. I'm not a fan of the styling, but it's probably the best pure-sports-car for under 100K.

Winter/Hauling stuff/pull the boat vehicle-
Toyota Tundra Double Cab- not the beefiest Crew Cab pickup, but I don't need the beefiest, and I really like the Double Cab limited interior.

Challenge #2:
"Nice" car-05 Audi A6- 50K
Truck- 05 Toyota Tacoma- 25K
Cheap-to-run-car- Scion tC- With a few options, I'd allow 18K.

So, I still have 7,000 left over. Yay.

Challenge #3:
Hmm... Nice twist. Here goes.

My driver: I wanted something that I can use to haul some stuff around. Not a people hauler.
2005 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab V6 4x4 (auto trans) with a couple options, $25,000

Wife's Driver: The people hauler, but needed to be something nice.
2001 Lexus RX300 4x4 (all the options, found it on ebay buy it now) $22,000

Kid's car: I, unlike several, was given a very decent vehicle for my first car, even though my parents couldn't afford it. (it was a gift from a relative). So, if I had this money to spend, I'd get my child a:
2000 BMW 323i fully loaded $12,900 (call it 13, since that's what I have left to spend).

Everyone on my list ends up happy. Especially the kid.

Challenge #4:
The tough one!
25K- (they'll probably all be toyota's, since I don't have much money in this version, and I don't need any repairs. That, and I don't like Honda much.)
Weekend car- 1992 Toyota MR2- not the fastest, but supposedly fun. And it looks good. I found a few decent ones for around $4,000.
Daily Driver: 2000 Lexus ES300- nicer than what I was expecting to get, but I found one for $11,000, so that's what I'm getting.
Practical vehicle: 96 Toyota 4Runner Limited V6 4WD. Found one with all kinds of goodies for a little under $10,000. So that rounds out my 25K list.

50K-
Weekend- 1996 BMW M3- $15,000
Daily- 2003 Mazda6 - $17,000 (If I can find an 04 on closeout, I'll take that of course)
Practical- 2000 4Runner Limited V6 4WD- I know, not creative, but perfect for what I'd want an SUV to do. $15,295
And I get a couple thousand towards insurance.

75K-
Weekend- 2000 BMW M5 $33,888
Daily- 2003 Toyota Camry XLE V6 with everything except NAV $19,590
Practical- 2001 Lexus RX300 4WD Loaded, NAV and all- $20,999

100K-
Weekend- 2002 Audi S4 Quattro (black) - $31,998
Daily- 2001 Lexus LS430, Ultra Lux, found one for -$32,600
Practical- 2005 Toyota 4Runner, V6 4x4, with all my options (leather, JBL, antitheft, steeringwheel upgrade, 17s, etc...) -$34,824
That would be a very nice garage for my tastes.

Wish I'd found that for my lists.

I had to hunt for that baby, but once I get my heart set on having something for a certain price, I normally find it, no matter how much work it takes. This is why I also love eBay... I always get great deals there. (though I dont look for cars there, I always use cars.com for that)

That equals 70k, not 60k, you're kids car needs to be 10k less

That's under 60K. What math class did you have? And nowhere does it say my kid's car has to be under 10K.

Oh. I wasn't implying that you're kids car had to be under 10k, I just assumed if you did have to take away 10k from your kids car rather than your own.

Oh, haha. Gotcha. Nope. I'd probably take 5 from my cars and 5 from the kids. The kid shouldn't always get jipped.
