The 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 concept was sold at Barrett-Jackson in Arizona on the 29th (January). It was a Corvette clone concept from Harley Earl. It was one of three (or four) produced, this the only one sold to the public, the rest are still owned by GM. The man who bought it owns a museum in Colorado so it will be available to the public.

The XP-20 project, commonly known as F-88 was a pet project of Harley Earl (working with him was Bill Mitchell, Ken Pickering, Zora Duntov etc.). Four cars came out of the project, but only styling order #2265 (this car) survived. It was sold or given to E.L. Cord (Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg owner) in 1955. Hundreds of internal GM documents and original blue prints are still with this sole survivor.

Well, it's a Harley Earl concept, so those things could just be for styling or actually serve a purpose, just not sure what.
BTW, this is the highest selling car ever at Barrett-Jackson, the previous was a Hispano Suiza in 1989 for 2 million. It was actually kinda funny to watch too, cause the guy who won it, before he did though, got in the car and sat there and was saying he'd pay anything and stuff, it was weird.

Interesting. I personally dislike old cars, whether they're rare or not. It's just creepy. But, in a matter of years it might be me that is the weird freak spending lots of money (if I have it) to buy some car from my childhood years.

Actually the buyer was only about 30-some.
