I'm like the only one that likes Altezza taillights.

I like them on the Altezza, but in my opinion, there are very few cars that can successfully use Altezza-style taillights and have it look good.

It doesn't look so bad here, at least on a light-color vehicle. I imagine they'd look terrible on a black Mountaineer.

I don't especially like the all-white lights on any car.

Yeah, same here.

I was wondering that too. Do you mean all white like the horrible ones on that Saab wagon concept, or when you say white do you mean the clear typical "euro" lights that are so popular with aftermarket modifiers?

I don't know that it sucks, I just don't see any reason to buy one over a competing model.

A car that offers nothing over the competition could be described as sucking. However, changes to the car remain to be seen.

What I meant is it isn't a bad vehicle, it's just not measurably better than its competitors. I didn't think that would qualify as sucking.

Since nobody @ C/D was interested, can anyone explain to me why they would change the tailgate design back to pre 2002?

Probably the reason no one could help you on C/D was because no one there knew either.

I'd recommend a visit to a Mercury dealer, if your local salespeople are reasonably knowledgable.

at best.

Did you know a SportTrac has 160hp and can do 0-60 "around 7 seconds flat"?
My tounge was near bleeding at that point. Next I wanted to hear him say, "and it's one of the safest vehicles on the road too." Luckily it never got that point, thus why I'm still able to speak/taste.

But I guess you can find one of those just about anywhere.

I actually got a Toyota dealer mad at me one time when I pointed out that he was misquoting the mechanical specs on a Celica, and saying it had certain features (which were actually standard) that were special, when they were in no way special, he just made them sound special. I never went back to that dealership. I have a very low tolerance for stupid/lying car sales-people.

They shouldn't get mad at you, they're supposed to be convincing you to give them thousands of dollars. They don't deserve your business, or anyone else's, if they can't respect customers.
