March's New York Auto Show will host the North American debut of the Kia Rio5, the new five-door version of the Rio sedan shown earlier this year. Like the Rio four-door, the 5 is taller, wider and shorter than the last Rio lineup, and the new five-door model gets only the 1.6-liter four-cylinder in the U.S. market. Kia execs promise two trim levels, manual or automatic transmission, and an extensive range of option packages. The New York show opens to the media on March 23.
Well, design nor power is anything to be surprised about with because of the 4 door, but what's with those tail lights?

This doesn't have anything to do with the Rio5 but... the other day when I was passing by the Kia dealer I noticed they had 2 Rio sedans on they lots with big WRX STi style hood scoops and rear wings. Is this some sort of new performance model that I haven't heard about yet or are they just trying to the ricer crowd?

I noticed that too, I think they kindof wanted it to look Scion-ish. Anyway, I haven't seen any Rios with those modifications, but unless they've got some engine I don't know Kia has in those Rios, I fail to see how that would impress anyone in the "ricer" performance crowd. I'll read around for Rio performance models, but I'd say it's more likely they are just trying to draw some attention from younger people who like those kinds of things, and normally think the Rio is ugly.
