Cadillac BRX

Just realized there's been tons of Cadillac stuff going on, anyway, from nsap at GMInsidenews:

"According to the April issue of Motor Trend Cadillac will be getting a Theta-based small-SUV. Theta currently underpins the Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent, and Saturn Vue. The magazine is calling the new SUV 'BRX.'

General Motors has also trademarked the name 'BRX.'"

I certainly hope that's false. Cadillac doesn't need to move downmarket in the US, especially to the Theta level. I can't understand them wanting to give Cadillac a small FWD SUV, especially based on a sub-$20k vehicle. They could simply downsize the SRX platform into a V6-only 5-seat vehicle, or at the very least use the 9-3's Epsilon.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. If they want a downmarket small luxury SUV, they should make it a Buick and have it replace the Rendezvous.

Agreed. I don't think they can develop the image they're wanting, which is a distinctly upmarket image, if they're moving downmarket at the same time.

An Equinox/Vue is too small to replace the Rendezvous. I assume a Lambda will take that spot.

Really? They don't look all that much smaller (well, the Vue does, but the Equinox is larger than the Vue), though I've never seen them side by side.

The Equinox looks a little bigger, I think, but that's probably just the way they styled the front. I believe they're very close on actual dimensions.

The Equinox is 7.5 inches longer than the Vue, as big as some midsizes. However, the Rendezvous needs its third row, and a Lambda would fit better than a further-lengthened Theta, which is a rather unexceptional platform anyway.
