The latest 3-series, codenamed E90, replaces the best-selling E46 that went on sale in 1998. Fortunately for BMW fans, the exterior styling isn't as controversial as the 5-, 6-, and 7-series that preceded it, although the interior looks cheaper to our eyes than the outgoing one. Of course, like all new cars, it has grown bigger and heavier, with an interior that rivals the old 5-series' in size. There are plenty of new standard and available features, including a separate key and start button, active cruise control, iDrive and a central navigation screen, voice activation, and active steering. Under the skin, there is a new strut front and multi-link rear suspension, while the new inline six-cylinder engine features a composite magnesium and aluminum construction. The U.S. specification 325i features a detuned 3.0-liter engine making 215 hp, while the top-line 330i has a 255 hp engine. In both instances, the manual and automatic transmissions have six forward ratios. The available Sport package features 18-inch wheels and tires and Active Steering, and tops out at a speed limited 155 mph: the 325i will be limited to 130 mph. When it goes on sale in the U.S. in May, expect a small price hike over the outgoing car, albeit with more standard equipment.

If I had to describe that car in one word, it would be "awkward". The placement of the chrome top for the twin kidney grille on the hood instead of being part of the actual grille just doesn't look right, the rear end is hideous, and the big arching instrument panel look alike dash around the NAV system looks.. odd. It sounds like it'll be a nice car, but it doesn't impress me style wise.

I rather like the look of the car. I'd prefer the grille to be a bit lower in relation to the headlights, and more angular taillights. I don't love the interior, but it's certainly better-looking IMO than the 5 or 7-Series or Z4.
I think it looks alright, but I'm kind of worried that it will have to many electronic "driver aids" to ruin the driving experiance. At any rate I have my doubts as to weither or not it will live to being the "ultimate driving machine" that the current model is.

Same here. I think the exterior is quite attractive, but the interior is lacking. Can't put my finger on it exactly, but I like the E46 interior better based on the photos.
The main reason I don't like it (same as 6 and 7 series) is how he tries to make it bulbous and angular. It just doesn't work for me. The 5 isn't very angular, so I really like it, the Z4 has angles, but not as much, and not all our on one thing (i.e. taillights, headlights, etc.). Dodge did the same thing with the Dakota.
