Cadillac STS V8

Well, I went to the Caddy dealership and played the Hot Button game, and I looked at an STS while I was there, in much more detail than I've glanced at it before. I have some comments on this $50,459 car.

1. Cramped. The front seats were okay, but not exceptionally roomy, but the rear seat (with the front seats back) was terrible. I literally had less legroom than in the Camry (not the newer Camrys, whose rear seat legroom would literally put this car to shame) in the back seat. The interior was not as big as I thought it'd be for a car that looked rather large on the outside.

2. Plastics unimpressive. The interior looks decent, I'm still not a fan of the way the wood looks, but when I touched the plastics on the door and dash, it was not a good thing. The plastics aren't hard solid plastics, if you press on them, they are kindof soft, but the texture doesn't look that great to the eye, and it felt really rough to the hand.

3. Fit and finish needs a little tweaking. The wood strip on the dash fit flush on one end and didn't on the other, some trim around the steering wheel was misaligned, and the carpet by the on the side of the center console wasn't staying stuck to the wall, like it was on the other side of the car.

Overall: The STS is a nice car. The interior looks okay, the leather is pretty good, and the exterior styling grew on me. The engine is very nice too, BUT for $50,000 my money would definitely be going elsewhere. With such a competitive segment, there are much higher quality choices for the money that do everything just as well, if not better, than the STS. But when my uncle's 2004 Camry XLE has a nicer feeling dash, and softer feeling leather, along with better fit and finish, for $20,000 less, Cadillac could have done much better.

The rear seat room isn't really all that bad compared to competing luxury cars, FYI.

According to the numbers, that's true. All I can figure out is that due to the shape of the drivers seat, your feet really don't have the whole space to do that they normally would, and this makes it feel smaller. Because by numbers, that car has quite a bit of rear seat legroom, but if you sit in one with the seat in front of you at a normal angle, that's not the case.
