Spy Shots: 06 Pontiac G6 Coupe/Conv. Outdoing the Oprah factor, one hardtop convertible at a time.
Oprah isn't the only one showing off the new Pontiac G6. But Oprah only had the sedans, and we've caught the upcoming convertible and coupe versions.
The sporty couple will reach dealerships in early 2005, but the convertible will not make its retail appearance until the third quarter of 2005 as a 2006 model.
The convertible, with an annual projection of 40,000 sales, will be equipped with a retractable hardtop, much like those on models priced far more expensively. No word on powerplants, but a V-6 with at least 250 hp is expected.

Cool, I don't know how the convertible would do against the Solstice though. The solstice is rear wheel drive though isn't it?

Right. The Solstice is on the Kappa RWD platform, which is smaller than the G6's. The Solstice is also a two seater.
It's the same relationship as the Toyota MR-2 and Solara convertible: one sporty, one roomy, same price.

and kinda like the Monte Carlo and Camaro, but I don't know if i would call the Monte roomy, (and they weren't conv. but oh well) It does look a lot like a Solara, though.

The G6 convertible looks better than the Solara though, at least from the outside.

Yeah it does, and the Solara does have a real nice interior.

Yeah, it does look rather bulbous in the rear, I think it just needs a lower trunk. At least its not fat like the Cavaliers/Sunfires.

I have seen a few I liked... I saw one the other day with the factory "body kit" and a different grille than I'd seen before, and it looked great. The basic models are nice looking, but the rear is just... odd.
Thanks to a sharp TCC reader, Pontiac's G6 coupe and convertible are no longer a big mystery. Terrence Robinson sent us this scan from the Pontiac brochure handed out at the California International Auto Show in Anaheim ("almost two months ago!" he says.) The sporty coupe will reach dealerships in early 2005, but the convertible will not make its retail appearance until the third quarter of 2005 as a 2006 model. The convertible, with an annual projection of 40,000 sales, will be equipped with a retractable hardtop, much like those on models priced far more expensively. No word on powerplants, but a V-6 with at least 250 hp is expected. Look for more on the G6s in our coming Detroit and L.A. auto show coverage in January.
