Is there anything you know that'll protect car paint, make it shinier, etc?
Heres what I know:
Do not go to machine car washes. The brushes make scratches in the paint/clearcoat, even if you cant see it. Most of their drying systems wont work very well, and you'll have those water/dirt line things on the car.
Be careful what soap and wax you use. Some will damage the clearcoat.
When cleaning the glass, you have to press HARD so the dirt on it to actually come off. (I dont know why, but when I dont do it, there is still dirt and streaks on the windows.)
Hmm... I don't know, really. I use TurtleWax Zip Wax car wash, use polishing compound occasionally to get rid of marks/small scratches, and wax with TurtleWax Pure Carnuba wax... it makes the car really reflective for a while (like any good wax) it's kindof interesting to look at a mirror image of the road in front of you on your hood.
