I'm not sure what the MSRP on the Solstice is supposed to be. I thought high teens or low 20s. Certainly more expensive than a Sunfire was. But it would be nice to have a RWD hardtop at around 20K on the market to compete with the V6 Mustang.

Well, why doesn't Pontiac just make a new Firebird?

I don't know. Probably because the sport compact segment seems to be completely taking over the younger car buyers' interest, and the "muscle car" (let it be known that any Camaro other than the Z28 in recent years was gutless) segment isn't likely to sell as well. Still, I think it's unwise for them to just leave that segment to the Mustang, they should make a new offering.

The GTO is $10k+ more expensive than as V-6 Mustang though, either Pontiac should make a lower end GTO (which I don't really recommend) or drop the price. Actually an '04 GTO can be found for $27k-ish.

Perhaps the next-gen GTO will be less expensive, and may even offer a V6.

Can't fairly be called a GTO if it's a V6, can it? I mean, the old GTO was a trim of the Tempest. It was a performance package that got you the hot motor. Anything with a lesser motor was just a Tempest. You can get away with a 6 pot in a pony car, but not a musclecar, unless GM plans on changing the GTO from what it was.

I doubt GM would think twice about changing a classic from what it once was.

That's exactly why I said I don't recommend it, they could knock off 3-5k without any problem surely.

Yeah, like I said, you can find GTOs for 27k because of rebates, but magazines don't take rebates into account. Magazines don't really matter but still, they know they're going to have rebates, so why not just make it cheaper? (I know some people might think they're getting a good deal with rebates, but whatever)

That would be a discount that would vary by dealer to clear out any old 04s still in stock, not really a rebate.

Well, you get my point anyway.

Bwahahahaha! So true. Sadly that's so very true. Well, at least they didn't put the latest GTO on the W body. I guess we should all just be happy for that much.

Isn't that what you just said? (" That would be a discount that would vary by dealer to clear out any old 04s still in stock, not really a rebate. ")
My point was they should just make the GTOs a little bit cheaper at least, since they know that they don't sell as many as they want and will just have reduced prices on the lot.

They're not making them cheaper, they're trying to clear out some old ones. They may even be losing money trying to get rid of them. This is only a temporary measure to make room for the 05s, not a permenant price change.

That's what I'm saying, they should make a pric change.

How would they lose money?
Selling 8,000 cars for $33k vs. selling 12,000 cars for $28k (I just pulled some numbers out of my !@& btw)
