2006 Prototype Build

On Thursday, February 3, 2005 our plant will be building our first 2006 Model Year Prototype vehicle through General Assembly. This vehicle was processed through Body and Paint on Tuesday February 1, 2005. Each new model year has a number of product related changes associated with it. This model
year's changes are the result of intensive market research and results of warranty and customer satisfaction reports. Design and Product Engineering Teams are constantly reviewing and acting on this information to improve the quality and safety of our vehicles as well as ensuring that all Government standards are met and maintained.

The vehicle we are building is a Chevrolet Silverado 4-Wheel Drive 1500 Crew Cab. The major new features on this vehicle includes a new hood, grille and front bumper to refresh the look of the Silverado, a new Tire Pressure Monitoring system as well as numerous electrical enhancements and emission improvements.




Unfortunately no pictures, and the interior isn't changed.  Personally I like the Silverado's exterior styling a lot.

I would assume this is a minor facelift about as significant as the 03 one, if that.

Yeah... I'm not going to have a shred of interest in the Silverado until they change the interior. Facelifts are great, but they don't change the basic problems with this truck.

Yeah really are they just ignoring millions people who think their interiors suck? To me the interior is more important than the exterior. I have to look at/deal with the inside of the car more than the outside.

I agree with that in almost all situations. If the Pontiac Aztek had an interior made by Lexus, I still wouldn't buy it, but if a vehicle is just bland, and has a nice interior, I'll almost definitely take it over a sporty looking vehicle with a cheap interior.

I consider interior styling/quality to be more important than exterior styling, though neither would be a factor in a final decision unless the cars were very close in every other way.

Interior quality rates very high on my list of "importances" if another vehicle with a comparable interior has a distinctly better drivetrain though, I'd take the drivetrain car. I don't need a sports car for most situations, but I won't buy a vehicle unless it has a good interior with a good drivetrain to match. (The Dakota we own is an exception to that rule. It does well at neither. )

I really don't see any purpose to interior quality except as an added nicety.

I'm picky, but I think that comes from always having had more expensive tastes than I can afford. When you're comparing mainstream midsize car interiors to a high end Lexus or Mercedes, you realize nothing can come close, but you quickly figure out which ones are the best. At any rate, I always thought it was important, but I think that's mostly because the ones with the higher quality seem to last longer. Example, the 92 Camry vs. the 94 Lumina my aunt had that has less non-broken pieces of dash and trim than re-glued-on pieces of dash and trim. I think quality has a lot to do with durability, but I'm sure that's not always the case.

Durability is rarely related to interior quality anymore.

That much I can understand, but I wouldn't sacrafice any price, feature content, or vehicle "goodness" to get that hq interior.

Price I might a little, feature content is normally up there on the high quality ones anyway, I haven't noticed a problem with that. But I don't think I'd sacrafice vehicle "goodness" to get a slightly better interior either.
