There was a TV mini-series (Of Martian Chronicles) done quite a few years back.  As compared to some other sci-fi adaptaions, it was actually quite well done.  It's probably available on DVD if you look.

In reference to the bad versions of good sci-fi novels, look no further than the recent "I, Robot", which is similar to the Isaac Asimov story in that they have the same title, and both have robots in the story.  "Starship Troopers", while a decent sci-fi "bug hunt" movie, changed chunks of the story AND missed some of the points Heinlein was trying to make.  On some aspects, "Aliens" was a better "Starship Troopers" than "Starshop Troopers" was.  The recent "Dune" mini-series managed to capture the novel better in many fans eyes, but I don't think anything short of a year long mini-series could accurately cover the breadth and depth of even the first "Dune" novel.  The "Conan" movies were decent depictions of the Cimmerian, although neither was taken directly form the novels and both fiddled with the character some.  The often overlooked "The Sword and the Sorcerer", starring Lee Horsley, is a better "Conan" movie in many ways.

Most of the Clancy movies have stayed true to the basic story line, even if changes are made, such as in "The Sum of All Fears", because Clancy has retained some level of control.  The Stephen King movies are all over the map, depending on how involved King chose to be in the process.  2001 and 2010 were pretty true to the novels, albeit with scenes dropped for time considerations.  It's surprising even today to re-read 2001 and realize how accurate Clarke was on many issues of space travel, even if the time frame was a bit too soon.

I agree that the Tom Clancy movies have held rather close to the proper story line. The Sum of All Fears was off, but in order to make it a one-movie kind of unit, I could understand why they did it the way they did.

It still seems extremely unlikely that your school library wouldn't have a copy... Are you positive they don't?

Our school library doesn't have movies (the Middle school does, the High School doesn't, and the ones the Middle School has our little kids movies).  Our High School library doesn't have much, it has a good selection of good books and tons of magazines, and 50 computers.  Nobody needs stuff from there that's not on the computer.

It might be at the public library though, but I don't have a membership.  I might just see if Hastings has a used copy that I can buy.

Ooooooh, well if you went to the previous page I noted that I am currently in the middle of the book.  I don't know if our library has it though, I borrowed it from my Geometry teacher.

Well, that takes too much time.... or something like that. Anyway, sorry about that. I still bet they have the book at your library. Your teacher must like you.

I'd check half.com, and the used section of amazon.com as well.

I'm not too worried about it, but if I happened to find it at Hastings (there's one near) I'd get it.  I'll check Blockbuster, though.

Ah a "gifted" class. (Gifted= "special" ? ) Just kidding of course, but if it's a G/T or GATE (though I think that's only a very few schools in Arkansas, it may be a state program) class, why does it only have two students? Surely there are more smart people in your school than that.

Ours is called Bridges (Brookfield Reaches Individuals Directly something starting with a "G" Educational Strategies.)  We used to have 5 but one had autism (sp?) and was pulled, the other two hated the teacher and dropped out of the class.

That's in one grade by the way, and the D isn't directly, but the G is gifted.

Still, only two? How many do you have in each grade?

That's not as important as the gender of his sole classmate.

yes, I don't think anyone has been tested in the past few years though.  And there is about 100 per grade.

And iffy the other classmate is a girl, and no, I'm dating her best friend.

100... so they are small classes. The schools around here have around 300 per grade, and they have a GATE (like GT) program that goes through 8th grade, where it switches over to Pre-AP and AP classes. Anyway, they average 30-40 students per grade in those classes, so I think your school needs some more smart kids.
