The Next GTO

GTO to go on hiatus

Just-Cars

SOAD2k8

Update:   I've learned that GM denounced the rumor that the GTO will be shelved for MY06. It will exist for MY06 and who knows, it might just be our little Zeta goat that we've been waiting for!

I have been informed that the Pontiac GTO will be placed on Hiatus for the 2006 model year. This is to prepare the Zeta GTO for production in MY2007. The Monaro GTO was really just keeping the seat warm for the true GTO anyway, admited GM a while back, because the experimental-at-the-time Zeta archetecture was far from production ready. Now that i is perfected, the designing stage for the new GTO has begun which will be "a toned down version of the 99 GTO concept", so expect to see many of the styling cues from that car in a more practicle form.

Here some info "leaks" on the next GTO where I got from some GM sites. According to the info will be a "cheaper" GTO sporting a 5.3 300+ hp v-8 motor for starters, the 6.0 400 hp v-8 will likely stay the mid-motor and a "Judge" model is in the works sporting the Z06's 7.0 500 hp v-8.

Design is said to be a combo of the '99 GTO concept and the "Woodwoard" concept of last year.

RE: GTO on hiatus for 2006

Are they gonna introduce a base 300HP V8 model for the GTO and a 7L Z06 engine for a GTO Judge?

I hope they decide to bring it to Canada.

You might want to change that now, I've learned that GM denounced the rumor that the GTO will be shelved for MY06. It will exist for MY06 and who knows, it might just be our little Zeta goat that we've been waiting for!

You live in Canada I assume?  They didn't sell it there for safety regulations I think.

It's either bumper strength or emissions.

Or is it that Canada has crappy rules?

I doubt that.

It passed the US bumper standards though.

That's why I wondered what Canada bumper standards are. I really don't know what ours are, but I wondered if Canada's were more strict.

RE: The Next GTO

Maybe Canada's in 5 km/h, while it's 3 mph in the US. Just enough difference to exclude the GTO, not enough to exclude too many other cars.

Ah, well I didn't know if it was a major difference or not. I imagined not, because many of our vehicles are sold there, but you're probably right. The poor GTO falls in a narrow window of "unacceptability". Unfortunate for Canadian GTO lovers.

Interesting find man. I didn't even know that there were different kinds of bumper regulations

I knew that Canada had slightly different safety regulations, but I wasn't aware of specifically different bumper regulations. Can't be too much of a difference though, like ifcar said.
