I can't really say but I don't think I'd nearly be that bad, and what do you mean by 'would generate no end buzz in the automotive world'?

I meant that whatever you developed would be sure to have people talking about GM's cars, whether it be in a good way, or a bad one. Then I meant you'd probably bankrupt the company pursuing cool concepts, and ignoring the mainstream market (you know, where the companies make their money).

Aaaah, I see, actually I have quite a few drawings I've came up with over the years and a majority of them are mainstream, but point taken.

But what kinds of engines would you be putting in those mainstream cars?

Repeat: What engine can bring together acceleration and fuel economy so well? Under 8 seconds to 60, over 30 mpg on the highway? The Mazda3 s might be close, but factor in refinement and it's gone.

How about the new Avalon? 80 more horsepower, 6.5 sec 0-60 time, and 31mpg highway.
Malibu still beats it, and doesn't ask for premium. "
The Malibu is slower, has 80 less horsepower, 40 lb-ft less torque, and only gets 1mpg better city, and 1mpg better highway. I don't see how that's much of a victory. Premium is a disadvantage, admitedly, and the Malibu does well on gas mileage for it's specifications, but it's not unbeatable as a combination.

But how much do you have to pay to get the Toyota 3.5-liter? $27,000 right now. You can get the Chevrolet 3.5-liter for as little as $10K less.
Pushrods are not only fuel-efficient and quick, but are also less expensive to produce (I believe).

We were discussing engine specs, and you had to go and ruin my fun by bringing price into it. Good points, but I still don't think they're necessarily the way to go in future designs. If Toyota can make a really smooth V6 (albeit currently an expensive one) with that much power that gets equally impressive gas mileage (especially considering the power difference) I'm sure someone can figure out a way to do it on a cheaper level too.

But it still didn't beat the Malibu in both performance and fuel economy, my original requirements. I still won. "
If you go proportionally, it did. I really don't care who won, to be fair, you would have, since I didn't play by your original rules, but it was still entertaining.
