At a dealer, where they can sit and adjust the seat and have no pressure for time? I've been driving my uncles 03 Camry XLE this last couple days, and it's big. A hell of a lot bigger than a Grand Am, and a lot bigger than either of my Camrys. I think they're crazy. They should also make time to just go sit and drive all three of those cars (the Five Hundred too). Having briefly sat in them at an Auto Show is no substitute for going to a dealer.

No time pressure for a Camry at an auto show, they typically have several there. You can take your time and adjust the seats all you want, unless they're power.

Me too. They looked at one at a dealer, I'll have them compare them again though, I think that might be one of the best if they just won't go for the Malibus styling or for a Ford (and the Pacifica doesn't drive well apparently, so it's out).

Aaah, I did. Well, I guess we'll have to test drive them all and pick the best.

You mean the new or current one? I guess the new one could be, but there's not much to discuss about it. And we had considered the current one (especially since you can get an '04 program car for $14k) but it's not really a very good car, and the interior is terrible.

It's basically a lousy car overall, even for the money. If you want an actually decent roomy and inexpensive car, the Taurus is surprisingly good and understandably inexpensive. It's not a great car, but far better than the Impala IMO.

My sister has a '00 Taurus.

Right, but if the new Impala is improved as significantly as it needed to be, then it won't be as good of a value. It's only that inexpensive if there isn't demand for it at the price that would be commanded by either a new design or a good vehicle. And if it isn't as good of a value, there's no reason to chose it over the Five Hundred or other better cars, unless GM gave it drastic improvements, which is highly unlikely.
And I don't see an Avalon going for $2,000 under sticker even then.

We have experience with it, and haven't found it very impressive, for the money, yes. But not for what we're looking for.

The LaCrosse has a somewhat cramped rear seat, even by Grand Am standards. That alone is probably enough to take it out of contention, considering that it doesn't stand out in any other major way.

Basically what iffy said.
And for the Taurus, they really don't like the interior or the way it drives, and I can't think right now.

If they don't like it, then they don't like it. However, if your sister has the Vulcan powertrain, it would be worth 15 minutes of your time to drive a Duratec.

Ok, I'm not sure what you mean, but hers has a Duratec.
