Not long ago I realized that Chrysler has become like one of those people that find something funny, and uses it over and over again and wears it out. It seems to me that Chrysler is doing that to the Hemi. Now the Hemi is in 6 different vehicles, not including the high performance models-
Charger and Charger SRT-8
300C and 300C SRT-8
Magnum and Magnum SRT-8
Ram
Cherokee (and SRT-8 version of that was a rumor but I don't think it's it's anywhere near realistic).
Durango
Firepower! concept (I doubt it's production but you never know)
The phrase "That thing gotta Hemi" is now pointless and old, seeing as to they aren't very rare anymore.

I completely disagree. The Hemi has a great reputation, and they're still only using it for their trucks and for their performance cars. I don't think exclusivity is important to the engine's success.

I think it's stupid. It's a nice engine, that's great, but the whole "I've got a Hemi" seems like a backward hick-aimed campaign. All it does when I hear it on TV is annoy the hell out of me, even if I do like the vehicle. If Honda did the same thing with V-Tec (which isn't as special, true, but it's still "their thing") everyone would complain about that, too.

It was certainly a very successful campaign that gave the engine (and any cars that it made it into) an excellent image and publicity.
It's no different than Nissan and the VQ (which is offered in at least 10 Nissan/Infiniti vehicles), although Nissan doesn't use "VQ" as a catch-phrase in their advertising quite as much as DCX does with their Hemi.
It's not annoying that they have it in so many vehicles, it's annoying about how they advertise it as a such a rare and great thing. They overdid it with trying to make it prestigous. I agree completely with thewizard's comment.

They weren't trying to make it prestigious, they were trying to increase its image as a powerful engine. And they succeeded in a big way.

Look prestigious and increased image are the same thing (to me anyway, let it be). Anyway, I just it's annoying and went overboard with the advertising, to each his own.

Prestige and image are far from each other. Jeep, for example, definitely has an image, but it is far from prestige. Prestige is a level of luxury, while image is less specific. And in the case of the Hemi, they went for an image of performance, not prestige.

The point is not what I think looking (or seeming) prestigous is, it's what I meant.

So you disagree with their push to make the Hemi a well-known engine that has a perception now as somehow better than other powerful V8s. It has obviously been a very successful campaign by Chrysler, whether you find it annoying or not.

You're missing the point, this whole thread is about how I find the Hemi campaign annoying now. It has nothing to do with the actual engine or sales.

You do understand how advertising works, correct? I'd chose to not have any commercials over any commercial, but that doesn't mean that there shouldn't be commercials.

Once again, my ONLY point was they now annoy me.

Except that you called the campaign "pointless" in your opening post. That's an attack of the entire ad campaign, an evaluation of its value, not just a personal dislike of the setup. (Unless of course your position entirely changed since you wrote that, which is always possible).

Okay, good point. Let me rephrase that, though, they seem pointless, but still, point taken, the campaign did work. Nonetheless, they annoy me.

Personally I dont think a HEMI should be in ANY SUV or Any Jeep! Jeep wasn't owned by chrysler when the HEMI came out, so why should it have them now? And why would you need a HEMI in a Family friendly SUV?!

The Hemi engine is accounting for close to 50% of Durango and Grand Cherokee sales, and at the highest price in the lineup. I'd say Chrysler knows what it's doing with the engine.
Even if it does generate sales, doesn't name integrety have something to do with where an engine should go? HEMIs IMO should be in high performance muscle cars, and even truck, but not a family SUV. The use of a HEMI in an SUV, and all over the place (like now) for that matter, tarnishes the name, at least a little bit, just like Chevy when it through an SS badge on EVERYTHING.
