It wouldn't be as practical though, so you'd need a second watch.
A fancy-looking watch is pretty much useless by my reckoning, even without factoring in the price.

True. But it's not useless ot have a fancy looking watch all. A cheap Timex just doesn't blend with a suit at all, and it's equally odd if you don't wear a watch.

I don't really need to impress anyone who I find staring at my wrist.

If someone finds my watch (or, in some cases, lack thereof) to be out of place, that means that they examined my wrist area long enough to draw that conclusion. Anyone doing that is more out-of-place than a digital watch.

Haha. True, but you're either very unconcerned with other people's impressions of you, which can be a very valuable thing sometimes, or you don't have too many occasions that call for the formal attire. I don't have a lot either, but I'm glad I have the entire set of "hardware" for when I do.

Definitely a lot of the first, a fair amount of the second, and a tendancy towards thrift.
Bill Gates doesn't really have as much money as they say, though ($60+ Billion). Most of it is just shares of Microsoft, but still he's filthy rich.

Most extremely wealthy people are almost solely rich because of stocks. Martha Stewart, Steve Jobs, etc. are all rich because of the amount of stock they own in their companies. I'm sure Bill Gates has a load of cash lying around too, but of course he doesn't have 60 billion in cash.

Same here.
