When I'd listen to loud music, I always made sure my windows were shut, and you could't hear much of anything outside my house with the windows closed. But I haven't done that in a long time, and I certainly didn't/don't do it at 1 in the morning.

There are jerks in every neighborhood. And I tend to end up living next them.

Annoying, I can deal with. As long as there isn't a "domestic conflict" every other night, seven cars to one house, a Rottweiler that always gets loose, or an elderly resident who routinely needs an ambulance (yep, all from the same house), a bit of whining here and there sets it right.

Sounds like the neighbors from hell. This surely isn't typical of your neighborhood, right?

They lived across the street for about a year, until they got evicted (renters) for trashing the inside of the house and parking engineless cars on the lawn.
Move to the country, 250+ yards away is my closest neighbor.

Wow... Sounds like they came from a trailer court in southern arkansas.

Actually we do have quite a few employment opportunities, we have like 6 factories in our one 5,000 population town. And I didn't mean in Missouri, surely there is spread out houses near D.C.

Factory work. My favorite.
And while it would be nice to have some more property, it's more to maintain, and you either pay far more for it, or you need to move farther from...well, anywhere (though there are some surprisingly rural areas quite close to me, I can get to a "tractor-crossing" sign in less than five minutes).

You have tractor crossing signs?
I wasn't actually suggesting it anyway, and here it's not very expensive, and you wouldn't have to own a lot of land.

We do have tractor-crossing signs. I'll take a pic sometime.
And I'm aware that it wouldn't be expensive in rural MO, but in suburban DC, it would be, even without a huge amount of land.
As it is, a front and back yard to rake and mow, and a driveway to shovel snow from is enough to keep the miniscule yardwork side of me occupied.

We don't rake or shovel snow, except that one time my sister's Cavalier got stuck halfway up our drive. Usually to get snow off the driveway we use the tractor and put a blade on it (no need for sidewalk, the one we do have, and use, is short).

I've never seen a tractor crossing sign. Factory work may not be fun, but it employs a lot of people. Our towns biggest employer used to be a medical supply factory (thought a lot of its employees are engineers and machinists) but it's now the hospital, since it's continually grown. Still though, for most small towns, factories are about the only employment they've got.

That, the railroad, Wal-Mart and fast-food is where our whole town is basically.

On warm mornings, I sometimes take a bicycle out to try to wake myself up (usually over the summer, too many school buses on the narrow roads otherwise), taking me past the tractor sign. I'll have to remember to take a pic.
And while factories employ a lot of people, there isn't much there that I would find desirable enough to want to move to such a place.
